Meet at Community Hall - Practical Day

8:00am - 4:00pm

This is a practical day - please pack accordingly

  • Close-Toed footwear (preferably boots)

  • Rain jacket, lunch, and other accroutements of comfort

  • Gloves and workwear that can get wet, oily, dirty

  • Loki will have some spare PPE available

with a successful day 1 complete, here is how day 2 will look:


Morning Session:

  • Water Delivery | Air Tankers | Helicopter Safety | Hand Tools 0800 - 0930

    • This lecture will focus mostly on Water Delivery

  • Exam Review 0930 - 1000

    • This will provide time to bring any questions forward and to set you up for success

  • Break 1000 - 1030

  • Exam

Afternoon Session:

Practical Exercise #1 1100 - 1230

  • Fire Assessment | Initial Fire Report | Safety

  • water delivery demo 1300 - 1330

    • Relocate to Government wharf

  • PracticaL Exercise #2 1330 - 1600

    • Pumping systems

    • Standard hoselay

    • Delivering water to crews

Exam Tips:

The exam is combination of multiple choice, short answer, true/false questions, and labelling a diagram.

  • Draw and understand the Fire Triangle

  • Understand 3 main factors that influence fire behaviour

  • What what to expect from a Crew Leader Briefing / LACES

  • Understand the attack tactics we use (Direct, Parallel, Indirect and then Mop-up & Patrol)

  • Be able to label a diagram of the The Standard Hoselay

  • Understand basic safety hazards around Helicopters, Air Tankers, Heavy Equipment, and Hand Tools

Safe Work Distances:

  • Hand tools: 3m

  • Tree Falling: 2 Tree Lengths (or more to accommodate slope)

  • Heavy Equipment: 100m

  • Feller Bunchers: 300m

  • Downed Hydro Wires: 300m

  • Helicopters: Never approach from behind

  • No Work Zone: Do Not Enter
