Basic Chainsaw Operation
An 8-Hour Basic Chainsaw Safety Course for Industry

Meet at the Greenhouse
Students Can Expect to Learn:
Limb and buck trees that are on the ground or suspended below breast height
Cutting and bucking trails, including brushing and slashing around standing timber
Cutting standing stems under 6” diameter at breast-height
Cutting stumps under 10ft tall, processing timbers, other ground-based skills
Course Curriculum:

Components of a Chainsaw
Chainsaw Maintenance, Fueling, and Transport
Hazards Related to Chainsaw Use
Planning Your Work Area
Basic Bucking Principles
Brushing and Limbing
WHAT TO BRING:
Please wear clothing suitable for working with fuel / oil / grease.
This course will be held partly indoors and partly outdoors, please come prepared for both.
Please wear suitable boots or heavy footwear.
This will be an 8 hour session with a half-hour break for Lunch.
Consider a Pencil/Pen, Notebook, and any supplies you wish for taking notes.
Bring a Hardhat, hi viz vest, boots, gloves and ear protection if you have them.
This is a basic competency course with a written quiz and a practical component.
Wildfire Suppression and Awareness
An 8-Hour Wildfire Prevention and Awareness Course for Industry
Course HOURS:
May 20
8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
LOCATIon:
Revelstoke Mountain Resort
Meet at the Greenhouse
Students can expect to learn:
Provincial wildfire mandate, including Wildfire Act and role of BC Wildfire Service
Wildfire detection and reporting, including assessment and size-up
Fire behavior, prevention, and safety
Fire suppression strategies
Pumps and water delivery
Wildland and urban interface safety
