Basic Chainsaw Operation

An 8-Hour Basic Chainsaw Safety Course for Industry

Course HOURS:

May 19

  • 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

LOCATIon:

Revelstoke Mountain Resort

  • Meet at the Greenhouse

Students Can Expect to Learn:

  • Limb and buck trees that are on the ground or suspended below breast height

  • Cutting and bucking trails, including brushing and slashing around standing timber

  • Cutting standing stems under 6” diameter at breast-height

  • Cutting stumps under 10ft tall, processing timbers, other ground-based skills

Course Curriculum:

  • ppe related to chainsaw use

  • Components of a Chainsaw

  • Chainsaw Maintenance, Fueling, and Transport

  • Hazards Related to Chainsaw Use

  • Planning Your Work Area

  • Basic Bucking Principles

  • Brushing and Limbing

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Please wear clothing suitable for working with fuel / oil / grease.

  • This course will be held partly indoors and partly outdoors, please come prepared for both.

  • Please wear suitable boots or heavy footwear.

  • This will be an 8 hour session with a half-hour break for Lunch.

  • Consider a Pencil/Pen, Notebook, and any supplies you wish for taking notes.

  • Bring a Hardhat, hi viz vest, boots, gloves and ear protection if you have them.

This is a basic competency course with a written quiz and a practical component.


Wildfire Suppression and Awareness

An 8-Hour Wildfire Prevention and Awareness Course for Industry

Course HOURS:

May 20

  • 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

LOCATIon:

Revelstoke Mountain Resort

  • Meet at the Greenhouse

Students can expect to learn:

  • Provincial wildfire mandate, including Wildfire Act and role of BC Wildfire Service

  • Wildfire detection and reporting, including assessment and size-up

  • Fire behavior, prevention, and safety

  • Fire suppression strategies

  • Pumps and water delivery

  • Wildland and urban interface safety

WHAT TO BRING:

  • Please wear clothing suitable for working with fuel / oil / grease.

  • This course will be held partly indoors and partly outdoors, please come prepared for both.

  • Please wear suitable boots or heavy footwear.

  • This will be an 8 hour session with a half-hour break for Lunch.

This is An awareness course, there is no exam.
