Loki Tree Service Crew - July 2 + 3 - Link to Work Plan

Phases:

Firewood

  • One of the higher value products we have the opportunity to produce from this project is firewood.

  • We wish to prioritize the forwarding and decking of logs from the back end, as much as possible.

  • Crews will work highest density areas first.

  • Crew activities will involve processing logs and windthrow, prioritizing the production of firewood, and prioritizing longer lengths.

Mulch

  • Windthrow events and pre-existing material on the ground has necessitated the use of a commercial wood chipper on site.

  • As firewood is being processed, limbs, tops, skidded material, and forest debris will be piled as feed-piles for chipping.

  • Staged feed piles will be chipped by hand into the 4x4 dump truck.

  • Mulch deliveries will leave the site throughout the day.

Waste

  • As crews work their general areas, they will encounter upturned roots, cut stumps, and other forest debris classified as waste.

  • Material fitting this description will be piled by crews among the existing clumps of root-wads for transport to a burn-pile off site.

Forwarding

  • Excavator and UTV forwarding root wads, odd shaped stumps, random chunks to areas where the dump trailer can access.

  • Tractor/self-loader trailer forwarding logs and good firewood to the landings which the log truck can access. (See Map)

  • Chainsaw crews will process, rig, and yard smaller material to forward locations for chipping and for log hauling.

Hauling

  • Forwarded material will ensure enough bunk logs to build loads and haul various lengths. As much as possible, good wood from the back 40 will be forwarded to areas the log truck can access.

  • The large diameter cut cedar stumps, uprooted stumps, and root wads will be hauled using the dump trailer

  • Branches and smaller material that is dragged and winched to the access points will be chipped by hand into a 4x4 dump truck and chips will be hauled off site.

  • Firewood which cannot meet length requirements of log truck will be hauled in 16” lengths using the dump trailer.

Site Rehab

  • Loading and landing areas will require some blade work.

  • Landing and winching areas will require some raking of small material damaged by earlier skidder operations.

  • Heavy mulch areas (skid trails) will require raking and possibly some loading and hauling.

  • Consideration for maintenance and proliferation of mossy areas, lichens, native grasses.

  • Discussion about future of site / wind-firmness will be required.
